Thomas Röwekamp

Member of the German Bundestag, Chairman of the Defence Committee

Thomas Röwekamp has been a Member of the German Bundestag since 2021. He is Chairman of the Defence Committee of the German Bundestag since 2025, as well as Substitute member of the Committee on Research, Technology, Space and Technology Assessment. From 2022 to 2025, he was CDU/CSU group coordinator, 1st Committee of Inquiry (Afghanistan). Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group in Bremen House of Representatives and Member of Bremen House of Representatives (2007 – 2021). In 1983, Mr Röwekamp joined the CDU and became chairman of the Bremerhaven branch of the Young Union (youth section of the CDU/CSU). In the following years, he held different positions – Chairman of the Bremen Land branch of the CDU, Mayor of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen (deputy head of government of Land Bremen), Bremen’s Senator for Interior Affairs and Sport, Member of Bremen House of Representatives, and Member of Bremerhaven city council.
