Jean-Daniel Ruch

Former Ambassador of Switzerland to Serbia

Jean-Daniel Ruch, a former Swiss diplomat, has served twice in Belgrade, first as Deputy Chief of Mission between 2000 and 2003, and as Ambassador of Switzerland between 2012 and 2016. In-between, he advised the Prosecutor of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (2003-2007) and carried out Swiss mediation activities in the Middle East (2008-2012). After his postings as Ambassador to Israel (2016-2021) and to Türkiye (2021-2023), he resigned to focus on writing and teaching. He is a co-founder of the Geneva Center for Neutrality and is a board member of several not-for-profit institutions. In 2024, he collected experiences from his diplomatic life in the book «Crimes, Hate and Tremors. From one Cold war to the other in pursuit of Peace and Justice» , Zarka Editions.
