Claire Bazy Malaurie

President of the Venice Commission

Claire Bazy Malaurie is President of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). From 2010 to 2022 she was a Member of the Constitutional Council of France. Prior to that she worked at the Court of Financial Auditors (1980 – 2010) and at the French Ministry of Economic and Financial Affairs (1972 – 1977), where she worked at the French Embassy in Moscow (USSR) and at the Ministry, Department of External Economic Relations. Her main functions in the administration included Delegation for regional planning and regional action (DATAR) – responsible for financial and inter-ministerial affairs, then director; Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism – Director of Financial Affairs and General Administration; Ministry of Health and Social Affairs – Director of Hospitals. Claire graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies and she is former student of the National School of Administration.
