Daniela Schwarzer

Prof. Dr. Daniela Schwarzer is one of the leading experts on European and international politics and economics. Most recently, until 2021, she was Executive Director for Europe and Central Asia at the Open Society Foundations. Since 2021, she has been an honorary professor of political science at the Free University of Berlin and was a visiting professor at Harvard University in fall 2022, where she remains associated as a senior fellow. From 2016 to 2021 she led the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) as Director and CEO. Previously, Daniela Schwarzer was research director on the board of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and led its Berlin office and its European program. From 2004 to 2013 she worked at the Science and Politics Foundation and headed the Europe research group there from 2008. From 1999 to 2004 she wrote as an editorial writer and France correspondent for the Financial Times Germany. Ms Schwarzer is currently a member of the Working Group on EU Reform launched by the French and German governments and was Special Advisor to the High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell from 2020 to 2022.
