Thomas Hacker is a Member of the German Bundestag since 2017. He joined Free Democratic Party (FDP) in 1995. From 2008 to 2013 he was a Member and Chairman of the FDP parliamentary group of the Bavarian State Parliament. Until 2022, Hacker was a Member of Bayreuth City Council. His membership of Bundestag bodies and parliamentary posts include: Committee on European Union Affairs (Ordinary member, spokesman of the FDP group), Committee on Cultural and Media Affairs (Ordinary member, spokesman of the FDP group), Subcommittee on Foreign Cultural and Educational Policy (Ordinary member), and Committee on Foreign Affairs (Substitute member). He is also Board member of the European Movement Germany and Vice President of the Southeast Europe Association. Additionally, since 2013, Hacker has been President of the Thomas-Dehler-Foundation.
