
Valérie Niquet is Senior Research Fellow at the Foundation for Strategic Research (FRS) in Paris, where she conducts research on Asian strategic affairs and serves as Director of the Japan Program. From 2005 to 2010, she was Head of the Asia Centre at the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri), after previously directing Asian research at the Institute for International and Strategic Relations (IRIS), where she established the Observatory of Chinese and Asian Strategies. Her work focuses on China’s foreign and security policy, Japan’s strategic posture, cross-Strait relations, and the evolving security architecture of the Indo-Pacific. She has published extensively on these issues, including several reference books such as La puissance chinoise en 100 questions, Le Japon en 100 questions, Taiwan face à la Chine, and L’Indo-Pacifique, nouveau centre du monde (2025). She is a member of the Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer, of the Academic Council of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, and is a regular participant in international conferences and policy dialogues. She frequently provides expertise to both academic and governmental forums.
