The second day of the conference started with the topic “Can a Divided UN Security Council Still Fulfil its Mandate in the Current Polarised World?”, moderated by Annelies Verstichel, Diplomatic Advisor to Belgian Deputy Prime Minister. The panel was initiated with the question of whether there is any hope regarding the work of the UN Security Council and how its activity could be challenged by possible changes in work.

Following the first panel, the BCSP director Igor Bandović stressed the significance of the newly established “Lighthouse” award that aims to reward individuals of exceptional courage in their professional tasks in the fields of security and foreign policy, both men and women. The “Lighthouse” serves as a reminder of the virtues that should characterize individuals in society and symbolizes the destination we should reach and the path we must traverse to become better individuals and a better society, with the courageous acts of these individuals lighting our way.

The first panel of the conference, “Ukraine and the Allies: Keeping the Firm Rock Unity and Solidarity”, was moderated by Oana Pompescu-Zamfir, Founder and Director of the GlobalFocus Centre. The panelists were Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, Guide Goldman Distinguished Scholar for Geostrategy, German Marshall Fund of the United States, Hannes Swoboda, President of the WIIW – Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, the President of the International Institute for Peace and Marko Markovec, Director and Deputy Managing Director of the European External Action Service.

The Belgrade Security Conference BSC 2023 is officially open! 

Igor Bandović, the Director of the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, opened the 2023 Belgrade Security Conference (BSC) on the 11th of October 2023. In his opening remarks, he mentioned the current destabilising events, such as the war in Ukraine, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, as well as the local dispute between Serbia and Kosovo.

The Belgrade Security Conference 2023 (BSC), the largest conference on foreign policy and security in the Western Balkans, will be held on 11-13 October 2023 in Belgrade under the auspices of the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP), titled “Reconstructing the Global (Dis)order.”

The Belgrade Security Conference (BSC) under the title “Authoritarianism as a Cause of War and a Duty to Resist”, organized by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, was held in Hyatt Regency Hotel in Belgrade on October 27-28. During the two days and 16 panels, the conference brought together more than 400 in person participants and over 80 speakers from more than 20 countries.
